NEPCON East/Electro 2000 Boosts Business in New England

Norwalk, CT. June 21, 2000 - Engineers and procurement professionals from across the Northeast took advantage of the new two-day format at the NEPCON East/Electro 2000 exhibition and conference, held June 13 & 14 in Boston, MA, to view technology, equipment and materials from a broad spectrum of suppliers, as well as to learn about the latest developments in electronics manufacturing from industry experts.

“We are delighted to have organized such a successful forum for the industry,” said Lorenz Hassenstein, Industry Vice President for the NEPCON series of shows. “Our aim is to provide the market with a wide variety of opportunities to discuss, learn and network – from the show floor and free keynote sessions to the SMTA Conference Program.”

One of the highlights at the show was a presentation by Vincent Paragone, Vice President of Commercial Design Engineering at SCI Systems Inc, which gave attendees an insight into how the EMS market could develop.

The busy show floor was the perfect venue for 3,672 attendees and 375 exhibiting companies to discuss electronics manufacturing issues with multiple vendors under one roof. The event provided OEM companies with a tremendous boost in terms of productivity as contacts were made for future procurement.

Chris Kosch of the ERA said, “(NEPCON East/Electro) is a great mixture of qualified professional attendees and exhibitors from around the world. Attendees are doing business!” Kathy Young, a marketing consultant with Winco Identification Co., commented, “It’s a fast paced, active show. People who come here are serious about finding out about new technologies and how it applies to their business. It’s a show for professionals who want to move ahead,” she said.

The event kept exhibitors busy demonstrating products and collecting high quality leads. “It’s a great place to develop a customer base,” said Sue Trocki, Sales manager for Allied Electronics Inc.

NEPCON East/Electro featured more than a solution-filled exhibit hall. The broad spectrum of technologies covered in the SMTA conference complemented the products and services on display. “The conference gives us a chance to hear about different subjects, (while) the exhibits allow you to see the new technologies coming,” said Kinnie Dupere, a product engineer with Nortel Networks.

Highlights of the conference included a symposium on lead-free interconnect technology, and sessions on SMT assembly and the new generation of BGA flip chips.

The Electro Conference Program, sponsored by the New England Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), offered sessions in three technology tracks. NEPCON East/Electro will be held May 15 & 16, 2001, in Boston, MA.
