Vehicle mounted ADA compliant
device
Problem Description
To meet ADA compliance, municipalities that operate public
transportation must provide accommodations for the visual and hearing impaired.
Additionally, since the devices are to maintained by existing personnel, they
must conform to existing connection and mounting specifications.
Product Description
The goal was to design a product that could meet the above
requirements and provide additional functionality at no additional cost. Some of
the features are as follows:
- Extruded aluminum design provides a mechanism to
dissipate heat without fans
- Dual Processor architecture allows a standard embedded
operating system to be used to manage the "PC-like" devices while unique
vehicle requirements use a processor better suited for that interface
- 40 Watt stereo amplifier provides the required output to
meet ADA requirements for the visually impaired
- Integrated GPS with proprietary code allows the vehicle
to be tracked when GPS signals are lost or compromised
- A wireless communications interface coupled with full
integration on the vehicle electrical "bus" allows automatic reporting of
sensor status when the vehicle returns to the maintenance facility
- Automatic tracking provides real-time vehicle location to
central operations
- Emergency management system provides security status to
central operations
- Manufacturing processes used provide a "sealed"
environment making the unit impervious to moisture or other environmental
contaminants
